As always, we are implementing some changes that will help make the site more accessible and user friendly for you.
One of the changes we need to make is regarding special charactersӔ in a user name. Characters like ? + % ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) = , < > / ; " ' [ ] { } | \ ~ ` are interfering with the user profiles and we are no longer going to allow new users to register with those characters. For example.John&John or Polly!Polly!, will not be allowed anymore.
The only characters that will be allowed are A-Z, 0-9, Underscore, dash and periods.
For those of you who have these special characters in your user name, we are going to have to change your user name. We realize it can be an inconvenience, but in the long run, it will make your membership here much more enjoyable and easier.
If you have one of the special characters in your name, please do the followingŅ
Email us at bh@adoptionmedia.com with your top 3 choices for a new user name. We will then change your user name. You also may be contacted by a moderator via pm informing you of this necessary change in efforts to reach everyone we can. We would rather you be able to select your new name and not choose for you, so please contact us ASAP.
We will make these changes over the next few weeks. If we do not hear from you on what you would like your new user name, we will make the changes at our discretion.

Ok...we won't be changing their usernames - what will happen is, if I click on the username John&John on the forums, we have added a rule that changes the character & to 998 - so when I view their profile, it will be adoption.com/john998john If they want it to be something besides john998john for their profile URL - they need to change it their name.

This is hard for me to explain. No, we're not just going to force name change. If mommtoeliðan doesn't want to change her username, she will still log in and use mommytoeliðan - but anytime someone clicks to view her profile, her profile URL will be adoption.com/mommytoeli898ethanSo, her profile URL will be forced - and will be different than her username, making it harder to find her, if you are looking for her profile.
okay, then perhaps say it like this?
For those of you who have these special characters in your user name, you can elect to change your name or leave as is. If you leave as is, it will affect how your profile is shown. For example, if your name is John&John, the system will show your profile as John898John. If someone is looking at your profile, that is the name they'll see.
If you have a special character in your name and do NOT want the default setting as described above, please email us at bla ba blah with your top 3 choices.
