My husband live about midway between Syracuse and Rochester (closer to Syracuse) in Auburn. We're researching adoption. I've been primarily looking at international, because many agencies have said it's difficult to adopt from out of state into NY, or they won't do it at all. Do you mind sharing what agency/process you're using? You can PM me!Thanks!Lynn

Hi Lynn,
I may not be the best person to ask right now, we have been matched with a sib group from TX since August and are still waiting. The process seems straightforward enough, you have a social worker, the kids have a sw, and there are supervising sws from each state, through the ICPC (Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children.) Interstate adds a layer of complication , and more steps and more people who are overworked and underpaid and more paperwork to take far longer than anyone would expect, especially us. If you PM me, I'll tell you the agency we are working through, I couldn't remmy how to use PM.
We went to TX to meet the children, they have been here as well, and we would definitely recommend domestic adoption, but it's not the easiest experience.
The main reason we even went interstate is because the ny website is terribly out of date, and there must be more children than that available for adoption (unfortunately.) TX's website is beautifully maintained, lots of pictures and information, plus they have a lot of children. If your social worker is doing the inquiring for you, you're already ahead of the game...we had to do all that ourselves.
