It is very possible to adopt a child from Brazil. Brazilian children, in all age groups, from infants to sibling groups can be adopted. You must meet the requirments for adoption, in accordance to your state of residence and the INS requirments for international adoption.
Y ou can't pre - identify the child you wish to adopt. All children availabe for adoption in Brazil ,are only chidlren who have been declared legally abandoned, by CEJA and the Brazilian Courts of Minors. There is a CEJA Govenment office in every state in Brazil. The incountry stay in Brazil, to complete the adoption is about 30- 45 days. A mandatory 15 day cohabitation period is required, before your adoption case will proceed in the Brazilian
Minor Court . Your child will leave with a final adoption decree and will be automatically a US citizen, via the Automatic Citizenship Law For Internationally Adopted Children , that went into effect , February 27, 2001.

After receiving an official approval from INS (form I-600A), the following steps must be taken to sign up for adoption in the states of Ceara, Pernambuco and Paraiba.
Submit to CEJA (Commissao Estadual Judiciaria de Adocao State Judiciary Commission for Adoption) in the state that you are interested in adopting from a copy of the INS authorization and home study, translated by an official translator and notarized by a Brazilian consulate in the U.S.
Fill out a Request for Eligibility Form (CEJA form)
Sign a document before a Notary Public acknowledging that adoption in Brazil is free of charge. (CEJA form)
Submit a Power of Attorney (if using a legal representative)
Present a doctor's statement stating that you and your spouse, if married, are mentally and physically healthy.
Submit a police statement stating that you and your spouse, if marries, have a clean criminal record.
Proof of address
Proof of income
Marriage certificate (if married)
Birth certificate for each spouse (if married)
Passport
Photographs
Note: All foreign documents must be translated by an official translator and notarized by a Brazilian Consulate in the U.S.
