I've been reading about this and was wondering how I would go about obtaining it? I was born in Texas in 1971 and have my birthmother's name. Who do I contact to get the non-id info?
Do you know if you were adopted through a maternity home or was it a private adoption?
I was adopted through a maternity home and I was able to get my non-id through them. I suggest you try to see if the state has some non id info for you. I suggest visiting this web site to see if you can't get more information: Texas Vital Statistics Central Adoption Registry
Also you might want to try to get your OBC. Texas has a law where if the adoptees know the names on their OBC then we can get a copy of it. You can find all the information on how to file on the same site I just gave you. I keep telling my self I am going to apply for mine, but I haven't got around to it. :D

I would get a copy of the original certificate first. As Sniffles suggested, the non-ID stuff should be pretty easily obtained if you were adopted via a maternity home. If not, you'll need to ask the hostile woman who runs the Central Adoption Registry. The CAR claims that it only started collecting social history information in 1984 (though background reports have been required for much longer), but that they have some information for adoptions before then. Mine apparently wasn't one of them. However, by law, we have a right to view the entire contents of the file as edited to hide identifying information. I'm going to keep after them until I get a look at whatever's in there.
