How do you petition the courts? Can it be done successfully without an attorney? I need to do this in Tennessee, but need some advice on getting started. Any help is appreciated!
Rel,
I petitioned the court in OK three years ago to get my adoption file open without the use of an attorney. I wrote a letter to a judge not knowing which judge was in charge of adoption files but a few weeks later learned the letter had been forwarded to another judge. In my letter I stated that I have medical issues and felt having my file open to be able to locate my bmom would be beneficial for me and my childrens health. After waiting several more weeks and not hearing from the judge I decided to write another letter but this time to the judge I knew would be seeing it. I also included a letter from a doctor stating some non threatning medical issues with my son and having that doctors letter is what got the judge to open my file. So my suggestion is no matter how small the medical need may be having a letter from a doctor may be a shoe in. At least that was the case for me. It is worth a try. Best wishes and if you need anymore help please feel free to PM me.
