I have recently been reading about the effects of divorce upon children, most recently Judith Wallerstein's longitudinal studies tracking divorced families for 5, 10, 15 and 25 years. I am struck by the similarities between children whose parents divorced and adoptees; so many of the same effects are present. Fear of rejection, unstable relationships, fear of loss and abandonment.
Has anyone else noticed this parallel? Both situations are effects of traumatic separation, breaking up of family structures while children are still emotionally unformed and lead to emotional insecurity.
Can anyone point me toward articles which have researched this or are there therapists out there who treat children of divorce for their 3:00 appointment and adoptees for their 4:30 and don't even realize the symptoms stem from the same causes?

Good thinking.
Any childhood trauma can have this effect on the developing brain, eg physical or sexual abuse. Not always. Genetic predisposition can also be a factor in how a child is affected from what experts are saying at the moment.
Fear of rejection, etc etc all the same symptoms.
Reading up on personality disorders can give you insight into what can happen to the developing brain and its future capacity...
oh i hope i am making sense here. I have been reading up on this sort of thing for two years and find it fascinating.
