Hi -
I am new to this site. I have recently realized that I need to confront issues surrounding my adoption head on since they seem to be preventing me from sustaining a committed relationship. I am in search of an adult adoptee support group anywhere in or near Los Angeles. If anyone could direct me I would be very grateful.
I think we should try to meet up. I still haven't found a formal group. Anybody up for meeting next weekend or the weekend after? August 1/2 or August 8/9?

Anyone who is interested - let's meet at Swork in Eagle Rock - corner of Colorado and Eagle Rock Boulevards - 10am. Saturday 8/1. Liz - (323)683-3655
Think it's great you gals are meeting up - also hope that it turns into a regular thing for you.
No reason you shouldn't form your own group - don't know how you would start one, but perhaps a local church would allow you to use a room/hall as a start??
LET US KNOW HOW IT TURNS OUT!!!! :flower:

Hi, I'm new to the site and also in the Los Angeles area. Has anyone found a support group or did you guys start one of your own? If so, I'd love to be included! I'm on the verge of making contact with my birth mother and I've got lots o' feelings about it.
Thanks!

If you don't have any luck, perhaps you could also find adult adoptee support groups via the following link Los Angeles California Adoption - Adopting in Los Angeles, CA. Adoptees, Birth Mothers, Search & They don't seem to list adoptee support services but might be able to point you in the right direction. You might also find LA-based resources via the founder of Chinese Adoptee Links Welcome to Chinese Adoptee Links (CAL)! While they're not specifically LA-related, the founder I think is in Laguna Beach and may know of adult adoptee resources in LA.
I also found the following info on adopting.org's home page: "It would be helpful to find a support group near you of people who are searching also. They can give you help about how to go about it too. You can find this information from American Adoption Congress or National Adoption Information Clearinghouse at naic@calib.com".

Hey,
I posted back in November and never got a response. I am still open to starting something although it looks like it would just be the two of us. Do you want to plan to meet up for tea? If you want you can email me at ladydarkins@gmail.com

Perhaps you could also phone Liz - her phone number is listed earlier on in the thread. I do hope you'll be able to get a group going - I've found that having in-person support groups immensely helpful. The back of Betty Jean Lifton's book, "Journey of the Adopted Self" also has a lot of adoption-support resources including the LA City Adoption Search Association. 12440 Moorpark Street, Apartment A-179, Studio City, CA, 91604
and
California Searchin'
PO Box 553
Penngrove, CA, 94951
Many more groups listed in the San Francisco Bay Area but again, those groups may know of groups in LA.
Also, Priscilla Margolin is a counsellor listed in her book and she's at: 260 Maple Court, Suite 124, Ventura, CA, 93003. Tel: (805)-644-1930.
Also, Adoption Consultant Service, 337 South Beverly Drive, Suite 103, Beverly Hills, CA, 90212
Contact: Reuben Pannor. Tel: (310)-454-8141.
I'm not sure if the contact details are current since I bought Betty's book in 2005.
I'll look into those. I've just started reading that Lifton book so I will check out the listings in the back. Looks like I'll be shooting out some emails soon.
And tea might be nice! I'll let you know. Got a lot of traveling over the next couple of weeks but maybe when I get back?
It's amazing to me that I started this search about a year ago and all because of an epiphany of sorts I had 2 weeks ago while trying to fall asleep that I'm finally getting into it. I've read two books and am on my 3rd and am devouring any kind of adoptee info I can get my hands on. I guess I've become a little less compliant! Last night I warned my husband again that there's probably still a lot of repressed emotions still about to come forth. Poor guy. :)
Thanks again, all.

Hi, I am looking for a support group as an adult adoptee who found her biological parents through Pamela Slaton, the adoption investigator but need a support group to deal with abandonment issues. I live in Pasadena.
I'm in the LA area and would love to find an adoptee support group. Please PM me if something like this comes about or exists.
