Hello all,
Can someone please help me. I am already frustated, which is pathetic because I have been pumping for maybe a day.
My daugher stopped nursing in June or July of last year and I have been able to squeeze a few drops here and there every since.
Our baby girl is due May 14th so I am starting to pump and starting the herbs in the hopes that I can build up a supply sufficient to feed her by then.
I am pumping and getting NOTHING. However, when I stop pumping and hand express, I get good sized drops. The drops have definitely increased in volume, even though I have only been pumping for the past 24 hours or so, but I never see them from just pumping. I have to hand express to get them.
Will the pump eventually be able to get the milk out? Is this a function of the fact that I have very little milk in the first place or a function of my pump not being good enough?
Did this happen to anyone else?
I am using a Medela Pump in Style double electric and I have considered renting a hospital grade if I need to.
I know I am being goofy to even be worried this early in the game but I SO want this to work.
Any advice, encouragement or stories of your experiences would be GREATLY appreciated.
I would also like to know how many times a day I should be pumping this early in the process and for how long each session. I am committed to this but I also have a super busy schedule. I work from home and also school 2 of my 3 kids from home, so my days are packed. Is 3 or 4 times a day enough for now? If I add dom and bump up the pumping frequency in March and/or April, do you think I will be able to make it happen?
Thanks a bunch!
I am a teacher, and same thing as you, very busy with kids afterschool etc. I manage to get in about 5 times a day and maybe 6 on weekends. Every 3 hours or so, exccept when I am working or unable to be at home to pump.
Was it you, that is not sure about dom? If you are ok with it, I would get on that asap. From what I have read, it can be very unproductive it you dont take that.
I dont know what to tell you about the hand expressing. I would keep pumping and then hand express if that is what is working. The pumping will stimulate and hopefully work too!

So you would start the dom now? Even though we are 3+ months away from baby?
Do you know if I will have to keep taking it once she is born and nursing or should my body then respond in the typical way; baby empties breast which triggers a "refill', etc?
PS I found out that we can rent a hospital grade pump and pay for it using our medical savings account through my husband's work. This is SUCH good news! I am doubting that my pump is efficient enough to do this job.
I am a teacher too. I teach from home though. 7th and 8th grade science. :)
I use a pump in style but started with the hospital grade medela symphony. It cost $400 for only a few months! I transitioned over a month to make sure that the pis was sufficient. I believe that the symphony was better but my supply is still improving with the pis so it was worth switching. The cost over the time I need to pump was just too expensive. This one is free!
I would start the dom now. I would think you cant just go off when baby comes but over time, other people have said you could at least cut down if not come completly off of it.
Just wondering how things are going with the pumping? I started pumping this week and our emom is due in August. I'm not getting much...did it take long for your supply to improve?
