I looked for him there
When I was only five
He should be with me everywhere
I looked for him along the drive
But he was nowhere to be seen
The social workers said it could not be
For my mind to be so keen
To remember a brother when I was just three
Where could he have gone?
This brother of mine
My memories come to never leave me alone
To meet again would be so fine!
I dreamed of him the other morn
The day of my birth, he came to me
Along with a sister from whom I was torn
Whom I never knew and could not see
But, there they were when I spoke of them
To come forward and say we are here!
Was it only a Whim
Of my imagination, when I could see so clear?
My dream to find a sister and brother
For over fifty years, I have wondered
The tears and joy to bring to our mother
Along all of our lives we have pondered
Do they know I am here
Searching in the only way I can?
Can they feel my heart full of tears
To know they have grown into a woman and man
I am lucky to have found her
No matter the past
A child's love for its mother
Is set in dye and cast
For all time, I am so glad
She gave a sacrifice to give us up
Even when it made her so sad
And, from her own cup, she did sup.
To give her babies a better chance
And left her alone to face each day
To hope we would each find life's dance
To know that babes would find their way
Now, I would like to complete, before it's too late
The joining of that sad parting jolt
I feel it is my life's fate
To give us all a new starting bolt
Just as a lightening rod
Touches the ground
And all the paths we have trod
To know each other, we have found!
