Agency Advice?

Welcome to FL. I dont know anything about HKI so I Googled it. Do some research of your own. The Internet is an invaluable resource. IҒm sure you are aware of that. My wife Sue and I started our adoption quest in March of 09 and were certified on June 30, Ғ09. We live on the East coast of FL in Ft. Pierce. It sounds like you have some experience with adoptions and some heart aches as well. Our process is to search the Heart GalleriesӔ for potential kids and then apply for them. Thanks Papawannabe-- I have googled it to try to find anyone that has used them and I am very unsuccessful in my search. After our last agency experience, I just wanted someone's first hand experience before I committed to another possible 'bad' agency. I am finding out that here in FL through HKI at least, HKI are agency but then you have to have another agency for the licensing qualifications and then if you move to adoption, you have to have another agency to do that license. It just seems like a very messed up system. I guess it all works out otherwise they wouldn't do it for so long. I also found out that they do not dually certify you here. Our end goal is adoption but we loved doing foster care as well so we just figured we would do foster care and if that child went for adoption, we would go that route at that time. I most definitely do the photolisting sites daily. I heard someone say that its like a second job and I very much agree with that. I guess we are going to take our chances on HKI and see what happens. If it's meant to be, than it's meant to be, right?

Funny because I saw your other thread first and suggested them I live in Pinellas but our agency still has a relationship with the Tampa area. I have heard very good things about them. I do believe they are the lead agency for Hillsborough. I know that they have transitioned into "Quality Foster Care" as opposed to traditional foster care. I know that our agency is pushing us to do the same. I surmise we will be required to take that training in the near future. I do not know any foster parents In Hillsborough, only Pinellas and Pasco. From what they stated in our orientation, they are the lead agency. I just havent heard any experiences with them so that made me kinda leary. We chose them and then we also chose our licensing agency. I am hopeful this will be a better experience. From the sounds of it, it looks favorable but we are only in the beginning stages.
