Hi Everyone!
Less than one week after our littel newborn FD went with mom, we have been placed with a little 9 month old boy. This is really different for us since we have had only girls- the one little boy stayed for only 10 days. He's doing well, but has major separation anxiety issues which is completely understandable! His mom is in jail and I was wondering what DYFS does with visits while mom is in jail? Not sure how long she's going to be there and supposedly dad is not involved. According to the caseworker, DYFS is not working with him at all. Mom has been involved with DYFS since the baby's birth and rights have been terminated on 3 other kids. Just curious if anyone has had a similar situation where the bio mom was incarcerated. Thanks!-Kate
That is wonderful! It sounds pretty encouraging actually...my friend adopted 2 children through DYFS, both came to her at 3 and 4 days old and both birth moms were in jail (TPR was within the first 18 months for both).
Everyone I know in this county has not had long waits for placements, I hope we are as lucky! :)

Hi, Kate.
My son's 1st mom was incarcerated, as was his 1st dad, when he was a foster child and with me. Visits did NOT happen while they were in jail. His CW once suggested bringing the baby to jail to see mom, in a meeting to discuss an idenitfied surrender, and his LG was very opposed to this.
Enjoy this little boy! PM me if you need some clothes- I have tons!

It's encouraging that he has separation anxiety. It means he had a meaningful attachment and can therefore have another meaningful attachment.
Good luck with the little guy! My FS just turned 11 months. Such a glorious, glorious age.
In PRIDE training we dicussed this. We were told that the children usually aren't taken to the prison or jail to see the parents. As Irelady stated usually an idetified surrent is done. I am have bay envy and I cannot wait to have a child come into my loving home.
