Not trying to bash social services, but has anyone else experienced inept and inexperienced social workers who know little about what they're doing. Our social worker in N.C. didn't even know our 3-year-old foster son had been placed in our home for a week! He thought the child was still with the previous foster family. Also, I had to arrange the day care payments, not DSS. The SW clueless about subsidies, also. Is this the case everywhere? I'm just trying to understand because I have been stunned by how much parents have to stay on the job to make sure our social services does the same.
We are also from NC. Talked to SS years ago about adopting. That is why,,,many years later,,,we adopted internationally. She made the children sound like little mental cases who would barely be able to function.

Unfortunately social services is overloaded which prevents social workers from properly doing there jobs. Perhaps more funding is needed for DSS in order to hire more/better staff.

I belong to a foster support group in my state. foster parents from all over the county in which i live belong. It is my experience that DCFS gives little helpyour better off going with a private foster agency.There are more supports that way.

My family and I have also experienced an incompitant social worker. We have a 15 month old foster son who we have had since he was 4 days old. Our social worker does not understand the subsidies, the law or have feelings. We have hired our own lawyer to make sure things are done and done right. If not our son would end up being in the foster program for his entire life. We are hoping to adopt him.

Our state adoption SW seem to have little knowledge of the system or pretend not to. The system is very frustrating and as foster/adoptive parents I think we have do stay on the ball to make sure our kids get what they need and deserve. We need to watch out for the best interest of our kids and definatly not depend on the system to look out for the best interest of the child.
