at my job they don't add kids to my dental insurance until they are 3 years old or turn 3 during that school year.
So I have no dental insurance....since L is turning 2, I'd like to take her in for a first visit though. If I have a medi-cal card, does that include dental visits if an office takes it?
I'm thinking I'll probably pay out of pocket, but just in case they take state insurance just want to know if anyone has had any luck with their medical card at a dental office???? or is there another card specific for dental visits.
Thanks for any info you may have.
ok....my experience is now all pre-2009....but here we go:
medi-cal does include dentist visits. call around. i know for sure that a few years back there was a dental clinic @ loma linda that took it bc i was supposed to take my then fd there for some dental work. but she moved. :) it was hard to find a good dentist in riverside that took it....but i found plenty of decent ones. once you can add her to your dental insurance, you can stack the 2 kind of like you do with your medical insurance/medi-cal as long as the dentist takes both. it works the same way...with medi-cal picking up a lot of what your insurance may not cover- like out of pocket expenses for some surgeries, fillings, etc.

thanks...I was going to call one in Loma Linda and another one that is a bit further....IE children's to see if they accept it.
If I need to pay that's cool, next year both she and I will have dental insurance and not just me, but I want to take her in since she has almost all her teeth in minus the 2nd year molars.
Western dental takes the medi cal card...but I am thinking that they wanted my son to be 3 before they saw him. Most dentists I found in our area would not see them before three...
most dentists you found in your area that accepted medical or in general?
the pediatric dentists I'm finding close to where I live are recommending by 1st birthday...LOL
I understand the 3 year old thing, because obviously my district doesn't put kids on my dental until they are 3...so it must come from somewhere....and fostering her, I didn't ahve to take her to the dentist because she was under 3.
So wondering if it has to do with medical not paying for kids under 3 or ????

I have never har a problem with MediCal paying for my foster kids dental. Of course you have to find an office that accepts mediCal.
In my experience, it is difficult to find a dentist who takes medi-cal and will see a child under 3. I did find that western dental accepted medical and were able to see my one year old daughter.
