Just talked to CW and the CEU application process is complete. We were pretty sure that we would be approved Medicaid and Non Recurring Adoption expenses which we were.
But we were also approved for Federal AAP not sure at what rate but we weren't sure we would get approved for it. I knew if the denied him our attorney wanted to fight for it because of some medical issues. I just want to get his adoption finalized and really didn't want to hold it up for subsidy.
Anyway YAY! Attorney has signed petition and is supposed to file this week. Since CEU application is completed we just need to schedule reading the redacted file and wait for finalization date.
That's really great. How in the world did you get it for a child under 2? There has been a lot of talk on the board that the little ones weren't getting it no matter how big the medical problems were? That's good to hear. Do you mind me asking what kind of medical issues?

Actually we were surprised again they haven't set a daily amount so DCS could try and offer zero but CW didn't think it was the case.
Basically, we got him at 2 weeks from NICU he was preemie about 33 weeks. He was drug exposed. He had some digestive issues including inabilty to poop on own and severe reflux. And had plagiocephaly (lopsided head) from postition in birth canal birthmom is very tiny about size of average 12 year old. His birthmom is also mentaly ill diagnosed biopolar and clinical depression and mentally handicap very low functioning. He was also really falling behind developmentally. Could not lift up head, roll either direction or bear any weight on arms or legs. Didn't think he would qualify for anything until around 6 mths old even with all this going on.
We were referred to a neurosurgeon because even with major repostioning he had both a severe plagiocephaly and bracycephaly case and needed reshapping helmet. He was also having deviation with one of his eyes not major or all the time. This has gotten better as headshape became less assymetric. Neuro ordered a CT scan to make sure his head plates hadn't fused since his head was significantly larger preportionately 95% compared to 10%-25% on height and weight. CT revealed extra fluids surrounding head and some sort of mass. At time not sure if it was a calcium build up, bleed or tumor. MRI revealed it was a bleed which probably caused the excess fluid. He has been monitored by neuro for excess fluid every 6 weeks at Riley to make sure it doesn't increase with him becoming hydracephalic and in need of a shunt or at least draining of fluid. So far so good and neuro is talking about signing off on him in the next couple visits if all stays the same.
At nearly 12 months he is still delayed he can now roll over and sit but is still unable to lift head off ground when on tummy. He is starting to stand when assisted supporting weight on legs but still struggles bearing any weight on arms. We are most likely going to need orthotics for feet but honestly most of his issues are somewhat resolving. I think the bleed in brain is really what most are concerned with since no known cause and not sure if it could happen again. Size proportion of head is also concern at 19 inches on his 20lb, 28" body.
Not sure if I truly believe he will always be considered special needs but for now that is where they are classifying him. I sometimes take special need placements and have a niece with down syndrome so compared to those he seems more normal than not.
I'm glad his CW was willing to go to bat for him. He really should get all of it. I was feeling a little frustrated when I heard that kids under 2 were getting nothing.
Kyle, our 4 year old, was adopted 2 years ago. He looks very normal, is so handsome, and so social. He's got a mile list of dx. His CW kept resubmitting over and over again. She basically wouldn't let them say no. We finally did get it.
Our 18 mo. old won't get anything. We've all ready been denied and expected it. We'd love to have Medicaid because our insurance won't pay for orthotics.
We never even applied for the girls.

I am surprised that you got denied for medicaid our CW said she has NEVER seen any case denied medicaid even under 2. She said that there have been times that original CEU said denied but they still ended up with it. She said if there is any medical or delays it ... First steps intervention usually guarentees it. There is something about if biodad worked at time of placement that can mess things up.
One of our FS bio sisters even got the medicaid and adoption asst and she had almost nothing at all besides risk of birthmom.

I had that issue to start with.. I had to point out to my CW that is says age 2 OR medical , mental , condition.. we were denied and appealed..Got state approved ( on wait list of course) but go NRAE and medicaid.. and exactly what you mentioned about bio working at time of removal. that was why my son was denied federal...it really makes no sense.. they say underemployed too.. gas station clerk.. 8.00 an hour.. If the adoption hadnt gone through my son would be living on medicaid , TANF and food stamps.. and still be deprived of a fit home because the parents are unfit. On top of that.. they were not married so no one is going to tell me that the bio mom wouldnt know how to work the system... even if one of them was working or not.. kwim? didnt mean to hi jack your post. I guess I just want to stress to everyone that you can read the laws.. read them slowly.. and re read them over and over.. if you can honestly say your children fit what they have written.. dont take CEU word for it.
