We are considering a Korean adoption. What are the top agencies? And or who do we need to avoid? Are wait times the same for all korean agencies? Thanks!
Korea is the only country that requires you to use a licensed American agency that is also accredited by the Korean government to place children with families IN YOUR STATE, if you are doing a NSN adoption. As a result, you would have to tell us what state you are in, in order for peiople on this list to assist you. Be aware that most states have only a couple of agencies that can place NSN Korean children with families there, and a few do not have any. If you are doing a SN adoption, you may be able to work with a slightly greater number of agencies.
Each U.S. agency accredited to place children from Korea is linked to one of four Korean social welfare organizations that arrange for orphaned children to be in foster homes or orphanages until they are adopted. The number of children in the Korean organization, as well as the age, health status, and so on of the children, will have the main effect on the timetable for adoption. The number of American agencies using the particular Korean organization will also affect when you get a referral, since the available children will be apportioned among the agencies. Then, you will have to recognize that Korea issues only a certain number of exit permits per year, which could slow down the timetable for getting your child home.
