Hello,
My husband and I have gone through all the steps including the walk through and our file has been submitted for licensing. I had filed bankruptcy in the past because of previous marriage and being a single mom of two children. I am remarried and very happy for 4 years now. Would this stop us from being licensed? I ask because my case worker called and asked the reason for filing bankruptcy. I hope this does not cause a problem. We currently provide a good loving home and have two younger children who are very happy and well cared for. I love kids and since we cannot have more children we decided to foster and if possible foster to adopt. I do want to give children who need a good home a safe and loving environment. Any comments? Should I be worried? Is the process hard after your file is submitted for approval? I was so excited as I thought since my file was submitted on tuesday that today thursday I would get an approval and be licensed. Now im a bit nervous.

The caseworker prob wanted to know the reason for the bankruptcy in case it was a red flag for another issue: gambling, shopping, drugs etc.......I'm betting that if you turned in your financials and can prove that you have sufficient funds to cover your expenses, that it will not be an issue with them.

I don't think you should be worried about that. Life happens and licensing knows that. As long as you can show that you are in a position now to support yourselves you should be fine. Don't worry because it's been 2 days and you haven't heard anything. Sometimes it takes a while. Good luck and keep us posted.
I agree with PP, if the bankruptcy wasn't filed recently, and you are in good financial standing NOW, it shouldn't be a problem:)
now, about your license... if it would be me, I wouldn't expect it to be done before the end of the year... the holidays are coming, and a lot of offices are getting ready for Cw going on vacation, then there is the 'santa program' that has to be taken care of (at least here in my office), so be patient :) that first call will come soon enough :)
we didn't even KNOW we were licensed, never got a 'paper' for it, when our first call came in, but I do remember I 'thought' we were done the beginning of December, but we really weren't licensed until the 1. of January.
the first call with this agency came on 1/5... so it didn't take long at all.
than thanks guys for all the responses. She said she was submitting our file for approval for licensing and would keep us updated. I guess I assumed by the following day lol. I hope to see soon that were licensed. I will keep you guys posted. I watch kids all the time and they never want to leave ..So I thought I would be giving kids at need a home a good home would be great. So many are treated badly. Anyway.. have w wonderful weekend!!!! Amd thanks again!! :)

Congrats on getting licensed! As far as telling them you'll be out of town, I let our CW know just as a courtesy, because if they call for a placement and I'm away from home, obviously we can't take them. I don't want them calling me for a placement when another family from our agency could be getting the call if they CAN take it. Does that make sense?
Our first placement will go to relatives tomorrow and I'm very sad. However, I notified our CW today that we're taking a small break for a week or so during Christmas, but they can consider our home open again on the 26th. They just like to know these things.
Good luck in your foster journey! It's a real roller coaster ride.
