Hey guys, so the biological dad of our current foster son has a warrant now. Mom is doing her substance abuse services and trying to get the kiddo back. Since dad has a warrant he didn't show to the last court date and hasn't started any services for himself. How does this work? If mom is doing what she's supposed to but dad doesn't can mom still get the kiddo back? I've asked this question to DCFS and they said they aren't really sure how that'll work, which surprised me. Mom and Dad do live together.
I am in no way a professional, but my gut instinct would be that both of them need to work the program to regain custody of the child. Unless the bio mom moves out, the situation would still be unsafe for the child. It could go either way though, the goal of the foster system is reunification so judges do that if at all possible.
