This year 44 children, previously in foster care, will be adopted into their forever families at the Gardner Betts Juvenile Justice Center, in Austin, Texas on National Adoption Day, November 22nd.

As in previous years, the center will be decorated in a Wizard of Oz theme, including a yellow brick road leading to the Emerald City. Characters in costume will be in attendance to celebrate with the newly-formed families.

Austin’s KVUE-TV reports that there are currently 188 children in Travis County’s foster care system waiting to be adopted, and over 6,400 children in the state of Texas who are also hoping for forever families.

The Heart Gallery of Central Texas is a mobile art exhibit featuring children hoping to be adopted. Professional photographs of the children, donated by over 50 photographers, are displayed along with a brief description of each child. An online edition of The Heart Gallery of Central Texas is also available for viewing.
