This is addressed specifically to Dickons,. Wrking21 and Beatricesmith.

Update on my status. First of all thank you for your care, kindness and hard work in helping me find my mother. Last October I did not know I had a family that spoke about me over the years and wondered where I was. I learned my mother searched for me over the years but I was in the witsec program as a closed adoptee. I've seen my mother twice since - a total of 5200 miles round trips from NY to Missouri. I also call her each morning for a 10-15 minute call.

I've met my uncle and two aunts who have shared family history and photos including three photos of me at different ages with our family. They told me they wondered where I was often during the years and that they hoped I had a better life than they did. I thanked my mother for her sacrifice and for giving me the chance to lead the life I've led. Raised as an Italian-AMerican, I found my maternal heritage to be Hungarian/Polish. Through dna testing I found my paternal heritage to be Maltese - I would never had a clue but for your support.

I did dna through Ancestry.com in February and found a few distant cousins. However, the ethnic findings were very general. In April I did a paternal ydna through FamilyTreeDNA with more precise results. That is where I learned of my Malta roots. I've been in touch with some distant relatives trying to find my birth father's surname. It's a lot harder process than my first search. I've also joined the gedmatch site for dna comparisons.

From questioning my mother I found (if she remembers correctly) my father's first name was Albert - unusual for a Maltese but not unheard of. I also found he was about my mother's age when I was born - both 14. He lived in a nearby project in Queens - probably Astoria. and that he had brown hair. Not really a lot to go on. I do have surnames associated by dna samples but I've been told just about every one from Malta is related to each other being a small island nation..

I joined the New York State adoption registry and requested non-identifying information as well as identifying. But, unless my paternal side is registered to the site there's not much hope. I found from a Catholic adoption support agency that told me there was non-identifying information but that it was destroyed after so many years had passed - yet another dead end.
Just this weekend I emailed a search angel based in NYC requesting help.

If any of you have any suggestions in this search I'd appreciate it. Thank you for your care and support. Joseph
