In the state of California you MUST be married for a period of one year. It is called a "step-parent adoption" - a peition is filed with Superior Court and then a packet is submitted to Social Services - if there is no father listed on the certificate then you must provide the last known address and I believe it must me listed in the notices section of the newspaper and the natural father has a certain period of time to contest - I'm not too clear on the details of that part. If the natural father doesn't respond then a social worker comes to your house and interviews you, you spouse and child - makes a recommendation to the court and 30 days later it's official - usually takes anywhere from 4 to 7 months to complete.

Not quite sure how they'd handle that - in light of the fact you don't know who the father is and you obviously have never received child support, I'd think this would be a fairly easy case - perhaps the newspaper notice simply states your child's name, date and location of birth - this would give the possible father an opportunity to step forward if he was opposed to the adoption.

no you cannot put your bf's name on the bc, you both know he isnt the father, and you'll be commiting the crime of fraud. and yes, you and he will have to be married a year before you can even consider having him adopt, no judge will allow him to adopt when you are not married
