Hi everyone. If you've been following my post you know my story re: my search and discovering 3 days ago that my son is deceased.
I'm planning a small memorial service in my back yard with just a few close friends and family. I will plant a dogwood tree in my son's memory, and I want to purchase a memorial plaque. Since I'm not permitted by TN. state law to know when or how he died, I think I'll just say " In loving memory of Christopher Kelley Turner" (his birth name).
Here's where you guys come in. I'd like to put an appropriate Bible verse or a relevant quote on the plaque but I can't seem to come up with one I like. Would you guys mind making some suggestions? Any suggestions for the small service would be so helpful and appreciated also.
I love you guys,
Kim:wings:
Dear Kim,
I went to a 'Blue Christmas' service put on by my local church a few Christmas' ago to honour those of us who are actually in mourning at Christmas time. I was mourning the loss of my birth parents then (and still do sometimes). Unfortunately, I don't recall the actual Bible verses but perhaps your local church might run similar services and therefore have appropriate verses?
Whatever you come up with, I admire your courage to openly grieve your loss. I'm considering doing something similar here in Taiwan (eg. going to a Taoist temple) but I can't bring myself to cry in public - which I'm sure I will.
My thoughts are with you at this sad time - I feel for you and can very much relate to your deep sense of loss.
Yours,
Ripples

I'm SO sorry for your loss...Being a reunited adoptee knowing that my bmother loved me and never forgot me was very healing for me... The one thing that crossed my mind was to put his name... then "always remembered, always loved". What a lovely memorial to your son you've planned. He will know.....sal
I am so sorry for your loss. I don't know scriptures as well as I should, but I will see if I can find some verses that may interest you. My prayers are with you.

Hi, I did my mum's funeral service (yeh, hard) two years ago, and I put together something special that the whole family and her friends liked. I will get back to you asap as I am in a library 6 miles away at the moment and I will be able to get back on the website in about 6-7 hours time from now. I can think of a few special scriptures, but I would like a bit of time to get something in mind for YOU and your situation.
I really feel for you, especially as I'm a bmom too. Special wishes and warmth from the depths of my heart, will speak soon.

I am an adoptee in reunion and although I am not well versed in scriptures, I just wanted to tell you how much your story has touched my heart. I cried as I read your post and think that your memorial, no matter what the plaque reads is such a wonderful tribute..my heart aches for you and your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you...((hugs))

I don't have a date, but I was informed today that he passed away within the last 5 years. At least I know now whether to grieve for a child or a man.
Thank you all so much and I look forward to reading your scripture suggestions. You'll be proud to know I was finally able to eat :)
Kim:thanks:

I am so sorry that your search ended with this sad discovery. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Kim,
I've spent an hour or two contemplating what to put in your direction and I hope there is something in the following that may be right for you.
This is an extremely personal thing and I’ve only given an outline of options that you may wish to choose.
Some ideas:
I think you may wish the memorial to start by acknowledging the pain and loss and need for comfort by those involved in all of this and the need to protect the heart whilst it is in mourning?
I think I would want to mention my hopes and aspirations I had for our reunion and what I wanted to hear from my son if he were alive to tell me. I would also want to write a letter to him to tell him the deep feelings in my very soul - what I would want to have said to him upon meeting. No matter how trivial the subject seems or requests from the heart, bear in mind, its your memorial, let your heart tell you what you want to say to your beloved son.
Scriptures that reflect this that you may wish to choose from are:
(the scriptures are from the New World Translation, but you can find the equivalent in whatever bible you have to hand).
(Psalm 147:3) He is healing the brokenhearted ones, and is binding up their painful spots.
(Jeremiah 8:18) A grief that is beyond curing has come up into me. My heart is ill.
(Psalm 51:17) The sacrifices to God are a broken spirit; A heart broken and crushed, O God, you will not despise.
(Proverbs 4:23) More than all else that is to be guarded, safeguard your heart, for out of it are the sources of life.
(Proverbs 5:9) that you may not give to others your dignity, nor your years to what is cruel;
(Psalm 147:3-4) . . .He is healing the brokenhearted ones, And is binding up their painful spots. 4 He is counting the number of the stars; All of them he calls by [their] names.
(Romans 9:1-2) . . .I am telling the truth in Christ; I am not lying, since my conscience bears witness with me in holy spirit, 2 that I have great grief and unceasing pain in my heart. . .
(Lamentations 2:11) My eyes have come to their end in sheer tears. My intestines are in a ferment. My liver has been poured out to the very earth
Scriptures that reflect Gods’ concern for what you are going through
(Isaiah 41:10) Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not gaze about, for I am your God. I will fortify you. I will really help you. I will really keep fast hold of you with my right hand of righteousness.’
(Proverbs 1:33) As for the one listening to me, he will reside in security and be undisturbed from dread of calamity.”
(1 Thessalonians 4:13) . . .Moreover, brothers, we do not want YOU to be ignorant concerning those who are sleeping [in death]; that YOU may not sorrow just as the rest also do who have no hope.
(Isaiah 25:8) He will actually swallow up death forever, and the Sovereign Lord will certainly wipe the tears from all faces. And the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for God himself has spoken [it].
(Psalm 72:12) For he will deliver the poor one crying for help, Also the afflicted one and whoever has no helper.
(Jeremiah 29:11) “‘For I myself well know the thoughts that I am thinking toward YOU,’ is the utterance of the Lord, ‘thoughts of peace, and not of calamity, to give YOU a future and a hope.
(Psalm 145:16) You are opening your hand And satisfying the desire of every living thing.
(Proverbs 10:22) The blessing of the Lord God—that is what makes rich, and he adds no pain with it.
(Isaiah 33:24) And no resident will say: “I am sick.” The people that are dwelling in [the land] will be those pardoned for their error.
Then the scriptural promise of the dead being returned to live with us again through Jesus Christ you may wish to bring in.
(John 11:11) He said these things, and after this he said to them: “LazaԷrus our friend has gone to rest, but I am journeying there to awaken him from sleep.”
(1 Corinthians 15:16) For if the dead are not to be raised up, neither has Christ been raised up.
(Mark 5:35-42) While he was yet speaking, some men from the home of the presiding officer of the synagogue came and said: “Your daughter died! Why bother the teacher any longer?” 36 But Jesus, overhearing the word being spoken, said to the presiding officer of the synagogue: “Have no fear, only exercise faith.” 37 Now he did not let anyone follow along with him except Peter and James and John the brother of James. 38 So they came to the house of the presiding officer of the synagogue, and he beheld the noisy confusion and those weeping and letting out many wails, 39 and, after stepping in, he said to them: “Why are YOU causing noisy confusion and weeping? The young child has not died, but is sleeping.” 40 At this they began to laugh scornfully at him. But, having put them all out, he took along the young child’s father and mother and those with him, and he went in where the young child was. 41 And, taking the hand of the young child, he said to her: “TaliԷtha cumi,” which, translated, means: “Maiden, I say to you, Get up!” 42 And immediately the maiden rose and began walking, for she was twelve years old. And at once they were beside themselves with great ecstasy.
(Luke 23:43) And he said to him: “Truly I tell you today, You will be with me in Paradise.”
(John 5:28-29) Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice 29 and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life
You may wish to consider how you would feel when you are reunited with your son again (if you feel comfortable with this promise of the scriptures).
(Proverbs 13:12) . . .Expectation postponed is making the heart sick, but the thing desired is a tree of life when it does come.
(Psalm 37:11) . . But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth, And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace.
(Psalm 90:14) Satisfy us in the morning with your loving-kindness, That we may cry out joyfully and may rejoice during all our days.
(1 Corinthians 15:26) . . .As the last enemy, death is to be brought to nothing. . .
(1 Corinthians 15:54-57) But when [this which is corruptible puts on incorruption and] this which is mortal puts on immortality, then the saying will take place that is written: “Death is swallowed up forever.” 55 “Death, where is your victory? Death, where is your sting?” 56 The sting producing death is sin, but the power for sin is the Law. 57 But thanks to God, for he gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!
My thoughts are with you and my heart goes out to you and your family, sending you much love.....
