I'd like to adopt my niece from PA, I understand an ICPC is needed, but I wanted to know if there's anything else that would disqualify me to have custody of her. I'm 28, she's 1, I live alone in downtown Atlanta, no kids, I have a 2 bedroom apt, no criminal history, no drug use, not married, I have a pretty good job etc is there anything else I have to have for the ICPC process to be successful? under what grounds is the ICPC denied? what are my best chances? what can I be doing now to make my chances better?
No one else is qualified to take her, its either me or foster care, and its a lot of pressure, I just want to make sure I've done the best I can for her. I'm a paternal aunt, and they're currently verifying paternity, once they have they said they'll begin looking into my paperwork. DHS caseworkers are terrible, and I can never get in contact with them, so I don't know where else to turn to get my questions answered.
