I would just like to put out some clarification. A woman cannot be a birth mother while she is pregnant. Until she physically signs termination of parental rights papers, she is the mother and legal guardian of her child, regardless of whether she has matched with a hopeful adoptive parent or not. A hopeful adoptive parent is not an adoptive parent until the child has legally been relinquished to them. If at any point before signing a mother changes her mind and chooses to parent, it is completely within her right as a mother to do so.
