Referring to an adoptive family, Yves says, “I always saw it on commercials on TV and that’s always what I wanted.”
Yves found his adoptive family, as an older teen, at an adoption event. He was adopted just a week before turning 18. “It was a huge wave of happiness. I felt loved,” he says.
He knows what family is all about. It’s about people who stick by you no matter what your situation is. It’s about people loving you. It’s about progression and becoming. It’s about knowing you’re cared for. For Yves, it was after adoption that he began to believe in himself. He succeeded in school and sports – things he didn’t know he would be able to do through the years. “What people don’t realize is that adopting a teenager – you’re actually giving them a chance at life.”
