Birth Moms: What Advice Would You Give to Parents Who Are Hoping to Adopt?

What do birth mothers want adoptive parents to know? What advice would birth moms give to hopeful adoptive parents? The biggest bit of advice is to get to know the birth parents on a personal level. Recognize that the birth parent isn’t just a baby-making machine, but rather a real individual, a person who is wonderful and full of personality. Get to know the birth parents, learn about them, move some of your focus from the baby to the person who is responsible for helping you create a family. Show respect for the birth parents by being happy, being a great parent, and always remembering the birth parents. “Be interested and available,” says one birth mother.
