Open adoption is becoming more and more common. 69% of adoptions include some form of openness. That is, the birth parents and adoptive couple have met at least once. There are various degrees of open adoptions including:

Confidential:  Some information is shared between birth and adoptive families, but stops shortly after placement.

Mediated: Information that is non-identifying is shared but it is through a mediator.

Fully Disclosed:  Full disclosure of information, including identifying information between both adoptive and birth families happens.
