Angelina, age 7, was in the foster care system in Miami when Jessica Shuman first encountered her through the Heart Gallery. Jessica and her family felt an immediate closeness to her. Little Angelina was performing way below grade level, on ADHD medication and sleeping pills, and not at all vocal. There have been lots of ups and downs in the Shuman home since Angelina came to live with them a year ago, but the hardest battle was the 8-month wait before Angelina’s adoption could be approved. Now, with a new family, a new home, and even a new name, Zoe (Angelina) is up to grade level in most subjects and is an outspoken member of the Shuman family.
