Millions of children in the United States live in a home where the grandparent is the head of the house. Many of these grandparents become legal guardians, and some become adoptive parents to their grandchildren.
Donaniece is the legal guardian of her grandson. It hasn’t been easy, but she’s grateful it has worked out. To other family members, other grandparents, Donaniece says, “Don’t give up. Don’t take no for an answer. No is not an option. It’s easy for someone on the outside to tell you not to pursue it, but go with your heart.”
