Not likely to be at the forefront of a political debate, Hillary Clinton has a soft spot for children. Shortly after graduating law school she began working at the Children’s Defense Fund. The organization, whose aim is to end child poverty, focuses on giving every child a “healthy start, a head start, a fair start, a safe start, and a moral start in life and a successful passage into adulthood with the help of caring families and communities.”

Hillary Clinton’s work to improve the lives of children in the United States and worldwide continues today. While in the White House, she joined forces with businessman Dave Thomas (The Wendy’s Foundation) and former Republican Minority Whip Tom Delay to raise awareness, provide more aid for foster families, and encourage adoptions.

While Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton worked with various countries to improve foster care throughout the world. Secretary Clinton also appointed a special adviser on international children’s issues — the first ever!
