Understanding how difficult it is for a birth parent to make the decision and then follow through with the decision to place their child for adoption is helpful when there are setbacks in adoption. Sometimes those setbacks mean failed adoption. Sometimes just delays. Whatever the setbacks may be, it is determination and an inner strength – knowing that adoption is the right course for a hopeful parent – that keeps one going on the adoption path. Of course, adoptive parents are searching for the child meant to be in their family; so when an adoption falls through, or when there are time delays for any reason, knowing that the right thing will eventually work out in the end helps one to better cope.
