Laura Dester Emergency Shelter Closing is Announced, Community Help is Needed

Concern for the children currently in the Laura Dester Emergency Shelter is mounting amid announcement that the shelter is closing. With the emergency shelter being short-term care, DHS hopes that others will step in to provide emergency care until longer-termed care can be found for each individual child.

It has not yet been decided what will be done with the emergency shelter. But the word is that a possibility arising is to provide temporary shelter for youth aging out of the system and moving into independent care.
