Concern for the children currently in the Laura Dester Emergency Shelter is mounting amid announcement that the shelter is closing. With the emergency shelter being short-term care, DHS hopes that others will step in to provide emergency care until longer-termed care can be found for each individual child.

It has not yet been decided what will be done with the emergency shelter. But the word is that a possibility is to provide temporary shelter for youth aging out of the system and moving into independent care.
