Florida’s Governor Rick Scott signed a bill lifting the ban on gay adoption this past week. It was Florida’s first openly gay Representative David Richardson who is a strong force to make this happen. Although the governor signed the bill, he also stated that he would like to see protections put into place for faith based adoption agencies the right to refuse service to gay couples.
Equal rights activists see that as discriminatory, but those on the other side see it as religious rights. Representative Dennis Baxley said that the Governor is in a difficult position: “We certainly don’t want to discriminate against anyone, but how do you ask organizations that are faith based to compromise their moral belief?”
