There are nearly 1,400 foster families in the State of Maine, yet it is still not enough.  With about 2,000 children in the foster system, the 1,400 homes do not provide for all the kids in need. Part of the reason for this is because many homes are empty of foster children – they live outside of the area of need. And so the Youth Leadership Advisory Team (YLAT) is helping the DHHS recruit and share the importance of loving, safe foster homes. The YLAT focuses on improving the lives of foster children, whether in the system for short or long term.
