About Our Family

Our family is built on strong values, as well as shared interests.

We love live entertainment. This was Katie's first punk rock show!
We have always wanted to share our love and experiences with children. Since we started dating eight years ago, we've known that we both value the importance of family. We both come from large families and enjoyed the childhoods that came from them.
We met in December of 2015 at a church activity, and sparks immediately flew. We spent the next year getting to know each other and falling in love. We've learned to share and love each other's hobbies and interests, like mountain biking and thrift shopping. We also found new things we love to do together. Our absolute favorite is to drive to a new neighborhood or town and just wander, exploring local shops, parks, and most of all, restaurants..
We got married in June of 2017. We continued to grow and learn together while getting new jobs, moving apartments, making new friends, and surviving a pandemic.
Our family is built on strong values, as well as shared interests. We are active members of our church community and believe in giving back through active service. We volunteer with the youth of our church and attend services every week. We believe in being compassionate to others and try to lead our lives with understanding and tolerance for all.
About a year into our marriage we felt the time was right to grow our family. For several years we tried to do just that through fertility treatments and IVF, but ultimately we were unsuccessful in conceiving a biological child. After taking time to consider what would be best for our family, we fully believe adopting a child is our path and it is meant to be.
We are excited to share these experiences and values with our future child and to support them in their own interests and passions.
We look forward to the opportunity to meet you and to share more about ourselves and our journey.
About Katie

I love stories in all shapes and forms.

This is me!
Hi! I'm Katie. Here's a little bit about me. I grew up as an Army brat, meaning a moved every few years. I was born in Texas, and have lived in Belgium, Maryland, Germany (twice), Kansas, Tennessee, Utah, and Washington. I have a loving family of 3 brother, a sister, and two great parents. The household was always full of game nights, taking turns making dinner, and a lot of Sportscenter. As a kid I excelled in school and would probably be called a teacher's pet. I enjoyed my reading and science classes the most. I wasn't one for team sports, but I did really enjoy ballet. I started ballet as a three-year-old and continued taking classes through college. While I wasn't the most technically skilled ballerina, I loved the art of the performance, the chance to wear tutus, and to be a part of an ensemble. In high school I was a part of the school government where I learned of my natural organizational skills.
I attended Brigham Young University in Utah for college. I earned a BA in Art History and Curatorial Studies. I chose that major because after taking one class, I realized I loved learning the stories and histories behind art. I decided to get my degree in something I knew I would continue to love learning about, plus I'm pretty good at memorizing flash cards which there is a lot when learning art/artists.
After college, I eventually made my way to Washington State. My dad's last Army posting was at Ft. Lewis, near Seattle, so when I decided to leave Utah, being close to my parents made sense. I made it through a few jobs until I landed my current position with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. I always wanted to work for a nonprofit and found a fit at the Gates Foundation. I love my work there and feel good about supporting communities across the country through it.
I love to shop, specially thrifting. I love to be outside and enjoy nature, though I'm not a major hiker. I love stories in all shapes and forms. I'm almost always listening to an audiobook, watching a new show, reading a book, learning from a podcast, or watching a movie with Bobby. I love to cross stich and am currently working on a series of miniature art masterpieces. I love to bake and cook and thanks to Pinterest I try a new recipe every week. I love sweets and always need a little something chocolate to end my meals. I love our puppy Penny and have fully embraced being a dog-mom. I love to party plan and there’s not an event I would say no to hosting. I love my friends and tend to frequently be our activity/meet-up planner. We have a solid group of friends who all got married around the same time. I've loved having such a solid group of people who support and love me.
I can't wait to have a child and share my love. I am bursting at the seams to be a mother and hope you know just how immensely grateful I am to you for considering me to love your child.
About Bobby

Some of my favorite words of are “radical” “awesome” and “totally”.

I love to ski and enjoy basically any activity that takes me up in the mountains.
Bobby here, I grew up in a suburb south of Seattle, Washington not too far from a rocky beachline and surrounded by evergreen trees. I developed a great appreciation for the beauty and release that nature brings from a young age. I grew up with 3 sisters and a little brother who we were blessed with when I was 9 years old. We had a comfortable home with joy and kindness thanks to my lovely mother. I was blessed to have a good group of friends who I am still close with. We entertained each other and supported each other both physically and spiritually. I developed a strong understanding of the value of a supportive community and family. My personality as a young person was happy but reserved and at times emotionally sensitive. Over time through a supportive environment and variety of experiences I opened up and developed the ability to adapt effectively to my environment. I am still an introvert at my core, and have a great amount of compassion and support for young people, especially those who are less out-spoken, or misunderstood.
As a kid I loved soccer, baseball, and roller hockey. I have fond memories of playing street hockey with friends, digging in the dirt and exploring, and going on camping trips as a boy scout.
I’ve also always enjoyed alternative activities like skiing, biking and later skateboarding and anything else that I try which provides a sense of excitement and adrenaline. I’m not aggressively competitive, but I am driven by a sense of progression and accomplishment. Some of my favorite words of are “radical” “awesome” and “totally”.
Music has often been a part of my experience and the people I connect with. While I never did my own thing I was drawn to those who were part of the music and arts scene in college, and went to a lot of underground punk rock shows in high school (there was a big Christian punk rock scene in Seattle/Tacoma in the late 90’s / 2000’s with a lot of great all-ages shows going on). Of my closest friends, some were into music, some video games and tech, and some high school sports.
Perhaps in contrast to my appreciation for the arts, my brain is pretty analytical which drew me to accounting as my academic focus and career. I went on to get a masters in accounting, and spent the first 3 years of my career working for a big accounting firm in New York. New York and public accounting have an insane sense of work-life balance, so I moved back to my first love, the pacific northwest. Now I run the accounting for a Seattle real estate company. Sounds boring, but I have a great team that I love, and I get to play in the mountains and enjoy the Seattle area vibes in my free time. I also met Katie after I moved back, and I love Katie the most.
I’m so excited to have the chance to raise a child with the sense of love, compassion and excitement that is a part of who I am.

Bobby is emotionally stable and he is quite thoughtful in his actions and deeds. I can’t think of a time that he overreacted about something or lost his temper uncontrollably. Bobby has dealt with hard and uncomfortable situations and he thinks before he reacts and takes a moment to analyze both sides in a disagreement. He also knows when it is important to ask for others' help and opinions. Bobby is very humble and is willing to compromise. Katie is also very understanding and she is so tactful in figuring out solutions to problems, especially emotional and family predicaments. Being in accounting, Bobby is very financially responsible and works hard to stay out of debt. He and Katie are great examples of being careful with their spending, but still providing fun and happy adventures. Bobby will research major purchases and be patient in his spending to make sure it is a smart decision. Katie has also been reliable and responsible in her profession and she is a great teacher for all parts of life! Bobby and Katie are very mindful and intentional in their relationship. They respect each other equally and truly enjoy being together. They like to travel together and learn new hobbies and activities together. I have been involved in some of our family circumstances that show their willingness to stick by each other during hard times. I wholeheartedly feel that Bobby and Katie Kaler are suitable to adopt a child! He/she would fit right in and they would love that child as their own from day one, I am certain of that. It would be such a big blessing in both of their lives and they would never take that child for granted.

Katie's mother

I am the mother of Katie Kaler and have known her since her birth. I am so pleased to recommend her to become an adoptive mother! Katie is a happy, warm, friendly person. She has always been responsible and organized. Since her teenage years, she has been able to take care of herself and her belongings. Now she manages her own tidy, clean, comfortable household with her husband. She is the fourth of five children in our family, and she gets along well with her siblings. She is clever and witty with a good sense of humor. Katie is resilient and knows how to keep trying to reach her goals. She is generous with others, often sharing her creative talents. She is loyal to her husband and faithful to her religious beliefs. Over the years, I have observed Katie care for her six nieces and seven nephews. They all adore Aunt Katie! She is loved for being attentive to their needs, feeding the babies, reading stories, playing house & dolls, doing yoga, dancing, watching a show, playing a board game, creating something, playing outside, or discussing their teenage lives. She is patient with children and has a nurturing way. Katie has also had the opportunity to babysit relatives and friends’ children. She volunteers at her Church where she helps lead a youth group. Katie is in good physical health. She exercises often, does yoga, she goes hiking and bicycling with her husband. She doesn’t have any serious chronic illness. Katie does not smoke or drink or use recreational drugs. She is emotionally stable and mentally strong. As one example, she is great at planning and arranging events which requires mental acuity. She has survived the frustrating, discouraging infertility experience and the stringent, stressful IVF regime. Now she is ready to try adoption to meet her goal of becoming a mother. She has emotional fortitude! Katie has a stable work situation. She has been employed for all her adult years since she graduated from college. She has worked at her current job for just over six years. She and her accountant husband have a very good financial set of circumstances. They have very little debt and lots of savings. Katie and Bobby are committed to one another and enjoy a loving, supportive, happy marriage. A child would be a blessing to them. They would be devoted parents. They would welcome a child into their lives with open arms!
