Forever Bound AdoptionWe are the Lyman family. You may be wondering what makes us different from other couples looking to adopt. Well, all we need to do is ask you one question: Do you like Star Wars? If so, then keep reading. If not, then keep reading anyway!
Our story begins at church where we met. We became instant friends and could easily talk about anything and everything, especially our common interests in books, movies, and music. Our friendship grew into love and the rest is history. We were married in the Mount Timpanogos Temple on May 21, 2009. Remember how we asked you about Star Wars? Kevin was born with a defect called Spina Bifida. Spina Bifida affects the normal growth of the spine and legs. To support his balance and help him walk, he uses leg braces. We call them his Star Wars Stormtrooper legs because... well.. that's what they look like. Other than that, he has a normal life span like everyone else.
When someone you are close to has a disability or when you have a disability yourself, you view the world differently but also in a deep and beautiful way. We have found that to be true for ourselves. Living with a disability has given us greater compassion for all types of people. We have also learned to be positive, have a sense of humor, and to never give up. Our goal is to teach our children that it’s okay to be different, that everyone is a child of God and to always treat others with love and respect. We want our children to grow up not being afraid of people who look, act, or sound different.
