Author and adoptive mother of Julia, Tina Traster, writes extensively about her experience with Reactive Attachment Disorder on her website. In her words, “Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt make it look easy. They adopt kids from all corners of the world and the media broadcasts images of perfect Kodak moments. They’d have you believing families bond and blend instantaneously.” And then she goes on to say that isn’t always the case. She talks of the shame and confusion a parent feels when their child can’t accept their love.
