“The Girl in the Window” Becomes a Beloved Part of a Forever Family

The disturbing story about Danielle's young childhood has a happy ending.

The disturbing story about Danielle’s young childhood has a happy ending. She grew up abused and neglected. At age 7 she weighed just 46 pounds, couldn’t talk, and had no characteristics of a normal child.

When Bernie and Diane Lierow decided it was time to add to their family through adoption, they were immediately drawn to Danielle’s photo. Social workers tried to discourage the Lierows, knowing about Danielle’s state. But the Lierows would not be thwarted. They knew that God had sent Danielle to them. Danielle is now an integral part of the Lierow family. She receives and gives love. Her communication is still non-verbal, but at least she is now communicating. This is the story of progress and change because of love.
