NBC has released a heart-wrenching preview of what is to come in the second season of the hit show ‘This Is Us.’ In the clip, Randall (Sterling K. Brown) talks to his mother, Rebecca (Mandy Moore), about his wife’s reluctance to adopt. He asks, “How did you guys decide with me?” At first she tries to skirt the details, but he is clearly not letting up. She shares her part in the decision they made after his birth. His father, Jack (Milo Ventimiglia), had been adamant that adopting him was the perfect fit. Outwardly heartbroken after the loss of one of her triplets, she initially said no. “But your father was so sure,” she said. She then explained, “He pushed a stranger on me, and that stranger became my child, and that child became my life.”

There is much more in store in Season 2. Commenting on Jack’s fate, executive producer Dan Fogelman said, “If that is a question that’s haunting people, in the course of the second season they will get the answers they need.” Sylvester Stallone will guest star this season.

In Season 1, couple Jack and Rebecca are suppose to have triplets, but one of the babies was stillborn. They decided to reconstitute the trio by adopting a black baby who had been born on the same day and abandoned at a fire station. The season shows their lives with a mixture of present day and flashback scenes. ‘This Is Us’ received 11 Emmy nominations, including Best TV Drama Series. It won the Critics Choice Television Awards for Most Exciting New Series (2016), the AFI Award for TV Program of the Year (2017), and the People’s Choice Awards for Favorite New TV Drama (2017).

This Is Us returns on September 26 on NBC.
