Regardless of the type of adoption you choose, there will always be post-adoption reports required. From a social worker’s point of view, it is important to assess the bonding that is occurring, check to make sure there is no abuse taking place, and that in all ways, this was a good placement. Post adoption visits by social workers not only serve the purpose of ensuring a good placement, but they also give the adoptive parents an opportunity to discuss concerns and issues that may be attending them.
Post placement visits are required before adoption finalization, but it is much more than that. Honesty with the caseworker will allow the adoptive parents to get help coping with the new situation. Although there is a fear on the part of adoptive parents, social workers do not go into the post adoption visit with the idea of removing the child, but rather with the idea of finalizing the adoption and helping the adoptive parents cope in the best possible way.
