Brian and Shannon believe in adoption.  They also believe these statements to be facts:

  • Adoption is only necessary because a child lost the family they were born into.
  • Children will act out and exhibit hard behaviors due to their struggle to walk through that loss.
  • Children struggling with loss, grief, bonding, and attachment will need more than just love.

Their explanation of these statements on their blog help in understanding what specific needs will need to be met when adopting through foster care.

Brian and Shannon are very open about their family.  Each child is a gift to them, and each comes with his/her own story which they share in some detail.  Three of their children are biological siblings, one came to them as an infant, and one after a disrupted adoption.  The children are home schooled and the family has learned to work together on their family farm as much as they play together.
