What do you do if you’re the parent of a son or daughter experiencing an unplanned pregnancy? How will you react? How will you provide support? What will you say to your child and what advice will you give? Our panel of birth family members suggest that you be open and loving and that you offer support first. Do not turn your back on your child or abandon them. Offer advice when they ask for it, but do not force your opinions. Help your child gather information so they can make the decision that is best for them and for their child. And then support your child through the tough situation they are in. Another piece of advice from this group is that parents should look for support for themselves as well. There are support groups and friends who may have been in your situation and be able to help you through your own tough time.
