After losing five children in three years, a loving couple decided that they simply could not go through burying another child. And so they considered adoption. About that same time, a 15-year-old girl took a pregnancy test and realized, along with her family, that she was not prepared to be a parent. The Hathaways exerted faith and hope.
Eventually they were matched with 15 year old Autumn who wanted to do what was best for her unborn child. She chose to place her for adoption. As a birth mother, Autumn went through all the stages of grief as she vacillated between placing and parenting. The Hathaways also grieved, thinking they would lose baby number six. But in the end, for the good of the baby, little Madeline Brooke was placed in an open adoption.
