Ann talks about her youth, growing up with an abusive mother and having to be the “responsible one” in the house. She was always taking care of her siblings. Life was uncertain and scary for her.
Not completely aware of everything going on at home, and knowing nothing else, she was surprised to learn, during her years in foster care, that life can be peaceful and joyful. Her foster family gave her stability and love. Ann began life all over. She got to start to make choices she never knew were available. Ann has made choices to become who she is, regardless of her past. She knows that foster care can be positive and make a create an opportunity for good change for foster children.
