In this video our panel of birth family members discusses what issues sometimes arise in an open adoption. Open adoption is just like other relationships. It is ever changing, and always needs nurturing. Continuing honest, open communication is vital. Respect, love, honesty and more are important aspects of a successful open adoption. Even while the picture of your open adoption may be changing through time, as long as there is good communication about wants, needs, good and bad situations—as long as the people involved talk about how things are working and not working, the relationship can continue to be a good one. This means including extended family in the communication.
