Todd Vesely and Joel Busch are a married gay couple who live in Nebraska. Years ago, the couple completed training to become foster parents, yet were denied because of their LGBT status.

Since then, they have filed suit with the backing of the ACLU. Vesely and Busch are now preparing to take the required classes again with hopes they will have foster children placed in their care and that they can eventually adopt and create a family.

The Attorney General’s Office provided this statement: “The State is concerned that the broad scope of the order requires DHHS to treat ‘unrelated, unmarried adults residing together’ the same as individuals and married couples for foster care and adoptive child placements.”
