Six-year-old Derik Shea remains in foster care after his mother, Deborah, failed to show up for an emergency court hearing. The hearing was called after Deborah took Derik from her parents’ home and disappeared. They were found several hours later, after her parents reported them missing. Pleading to have his grandson placed in his care, Derik’s grandfather did show up in court. Yet Derik told investigators, in detail, about drug usage going on in his grandparents’ home. He also accused his grandparents of hitting him.
For now Derik remains in foster care, with a new court hearing scheduled for May 14th. The court expects his mother, Deborah, will not be a “no show” at the next hearing.
