Cortez was born into the system. After a failed adoption, Cortez was put back into foster care. He moved from one place to another and his “normalcy” became change. Cortez was filled with a deep desire to find his biological family. He desperately wanted to know who he was: What was his name? Where did he come from? Who, really, was he? Cortez searched, found, and finally reunited. It took years. Cortez was a senior in high school when his name change back to his original name became legal. Cortez has dedicated his life future to helping children and youth have a better life.
