A Stafford County, Virginia couple opened their home to foster children and lovingly provided care. Ka’ron (11 months), called “Ronny,” was being bathed when he broke out in what some said were burns, but the family claimed was an allergic reaction. Ka’ron was immediately taken to the hospital. On February 1, 2015, David John Marcussen was charged with murder, involuntary manslaughter, child neglect, and two counts of cruelty to children in connection with Ka’ron’s death.
After Marcussen surrendered to authorities on April 17th, his bail was set at $75,000. The foster father was required to surrender his passport, report to pretrial services, have no contact with minor children who were not his biological children, and not leave the state of Virginia.
Ka’ron’ was placed in the care of the Marcussens in July of 2014.
The state medical examiner has listed the child’s death an accident. The death was a result of complications from thermal injuries.
