When those outside of the adoption world hear about the open adoptions we enjoy with my sons’ birth families, they often ask a similar question, “Does seeing all those photos of their baby make them feel bad?”
My response is always the same, “I can’t speak for them, but I would imagine NOT hearing how their son is doing or seeing photos of him is MORE painful.”
I love how this birthmother points out that the emotions post-placement are complex and fluctuate. But what I really love is how she describes how her relationship has grown with the family she placed her son with. It started as letters through the agency but listen to how it has evolved.
