When she got pregnant, Joni Mitchell was in art school. But getting pregnant meant that she would have to drop out and leave. Dropping out of art school led her to become a musician. She wants to make it very clear that she did not let go of her daughter in order to further her career. Music wasn’t even a career for her at that time. Her years of fame came a little later.
